With repertoire ranging from soft jazz ballads and bossa nova to upbeat soul classics, The Sonic Soul Trio brings a musical offering tailored to suit its surroundings, whether it’s soft background vibes or vibrant groovy soul.

The three musicians in the group carry international professional experience and conservatory background, into a common goal of bringing genuine presence to the intersection between jazz and groove.

Be it large corporate events or intimate private events, The Sonic Soul Trio got you covered. The trio also offers expanded constellations with for example a horn or a voice feature.

WHO ARE WE?

About us

On a summer evening in 2020, the foundation of Sonic Soul was laid. Today, we provide professional live music for any occasion - from setting the perfect atmosphere with a stylish jazz trio to filling dance floors with a high-energy party band.

We are conservatory-trained professional musicians with an extensive network and strong industry collaborations, making most musical visions and lineups possible. As the responsible trio, we ensure top quality and personal communication before, during, and after your event. Sonic Soul Jazz Trio

Commonly booked for: guest arrival, receptions, concerts, wedding ceremonies, background music, cocktails and mingling.

Standard lineup: guitar, bass, drums.

Common variations:

Vocal feature (jazz format): The trio expands with a jazz vocalist, and the repertoire features swing classics, jazz standards, and an old-school feel.
Vocal feature (RnB format): The trio expands with an RnB vocalist, featuring jazz- and groove interpretations of well-known pop, soul, and R&B songs, mixed with atmospheric jazz standards.
Theme (Christmas format): The trio celebrates the holiday season with jazzy and groovy interpretations of both American and Danish Christmas classics.

Sonic Soul Party Orchestra

Sonic Soul Party Orchestra brings the dance floor to life with an energetic live experience and a repertoire of the greatest pop and soul hits, from timeless classics to modern favourites. An exceptional live band that takes every event to its peak and creates unforgettable memories for your guests.

Standard lineup: vocal, guitar, bass, drums

Common variations:

Expanded rhythm section: The band is expanded with, for example, keyboards or percussion for added depth and energy.
Expanded vocals: The band is expanded with additional vocalists, opening up duet possibilities and richer backing vocal arrangements.
Added horn (section): The band is expanded with one or more horn players, adding extra wow factor to the music.

Who is the heart of Sonic Soul?

Mathias Bøttern

Mathias Bøttern is a Danish Guitarist, who plays in many different settings and styles. He holds a master’s degree from The Danish National Academy of Music. With a background in jazz and a taste for latin, soul and funk, he has played everything from small intimate stages on Copenhagen Jazz Festival to the biggest Danish festivals in Denmark, touring with the successful Danish pop group Patina.

Jonathan Wøhlk

Jonathan Woehlk is a Danish bassist and musical director, whom with his solid and groovy bass playing already early on accomplished an international professional music career. Awarded with the highest of honors, summa cum laude, and a full scholarship, he is a graduate from Berklee College of Music (US). After several years in the US, he now lives in Copenhagen, where he besides Sonic Soul Trio can be found playing with well-known Danish artists and in nationally touring musical productions among others.

Chris Andersen

Chris Andersen is a Danish-American drummer known for his refined musicianship and natural sense of groove, bringing musicality, energy and joy to every performance. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and the Danish National Academy of Music and has performed with many leading figures in the Copenhagen jazz scene. In addition to Sonic Soul Trio, his recent work includes Tuxen Lockjaw and international touring with American jazz vocalist Vanisha Gould, performing across Scandinavia, the Baltics, the UK, and Germany.
